ASUS RP-AC55 Repeater Setup
Asus is a well-known brand known for the manufacturing high-end computers and peripherals for the past decade. The RP-AC55 is a highly affordable and powerful Wi-Fi repeater that is easy to setup and use. This repeater comes in an AC1200 wireless configuration that is coupled with a Realtek chipset. The Asus RP AC55 is white in color and has 2 non-removable network antennas for strong network connectivity. It has a Gigabit Ethernet LAN port combined with a power switch and WPS button as well. It as 4 LED indicators on its front panel that indicates the signal strength and another status of the extender.
Light Status on asus rp-ac55 extender
- Solid White: The extender shows that it is connected to a power source and is ready to be setup and used.
- Green: Range extender can provide the best Wi-Fi performance.
- Red: Repeater provides poor Wi-Fi performance.
- No light: The range extender is not connected to a router or an access point (AP).
Setup rp-ac55 repeater via Asus Extender App:
- As pre-requisites, remember to have a router, an ethernet cable, and the Wi-Fi repeater in hand.
- Connect the Asus RP-AC55 repeater to a power outlet. Make sure it powers ‘ON’ and make sure that the antennas are oriented upwards.
- Now wait for a couple of minutes for the repeater to have a solid ‘green’ color on the ‘Power LED’.
- Download the ‘ASUS Extender’ app on your smartphone from the Android Play Store or iOS AppStore.
- Open the app on your smartphone and click the ‘Next’ button. Now, select the location where you are about to place the repeater.
- Connect to the existing Wi-Fi network of your main Wi-Fi router. Click on ‘Next’ and enter the ‘Username’ (SSID) and ‘Password’ of the network that you wish to give this repeater.
- You might have to do the previous step twice if you have a dual-band router. Click on ‘Next’.
- Now create a new ‘Administrative’ password and confirm it by re-entering it. Click on ‘Next’.
- Wait for a couple of minutes for the settings to be saved and the setup is complete.
- You can check the Wi-Fi signal strength by clicking on the ‘Network Tool’ ‘Wi-Fi scanner’.
Asus rp-ac55 repeater setup via WPS:
- Make sure the Asus RP-AC55 repeater is placed close to the main Wi-Fi router.
- Connect the Asus RP-AC55 repeater to a power outlet. Make sure it powers ‘ON’ and make sure that the antennas are oriented upwards.
- Wait for a couple of minutes for the repeater to have a solid ‘green’ color on the ‘Power LED’.
- Press the ‘WPS’ button present on the back of your main Wi-Fi router.
- Within a couple of minutes, press the ‘WPS’ button on this repeater present on the front interface. Wait for the ‘WPS’ LED to turn from solid orange to a solid green color.
- Your repeater is connect to the internet of your main router. This can be check and change by using your phone.
- Switch on the ‘Wi-Fi’ option on your phone. Select for a network that has a name (SSID) as ‘Wi-Fi NAME_RPT’. Enter its initial password as ‘123456789’ (or the same password of the Wi-Fi network of your main router).
- You can configure the settings of the repeater later on using the app or the login webpage.
Setup asus rp-ac55 repeater via Browser:
- Connect the Asus RP-AC55 repeater to a power source and wait for the ‘Power’ LED to turn to a solid ‘green’ color.
- On any one of your devices like a computer, a laptop, or any other device connect them to a Wi-Fi network that has a name (SSID) as ‘ASUS_RPN12’.
- From the same device use the web-browser and enter ‘https://repeater.asus.com’ or ‘192.168.1.1’ in the URL.
- Make sure you place the repeater close to the main Wi-Fi router. Wait for the configuration page to initialize for a couple of minutes.
- On the first page, you will need to select the Wi-Fi network of your main router with a stable internet connection.
- Enter the ‘password’ of that network and click on ‘Next’. On the next page, you can now customize the ‘Username’ (SSID) and ‘Password’ of the network of your extender.
- You might have to do the previous step twice if you have a dual-band signal of 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks respectively.
- Once done, click on ‘Done’ to finish the setup. Using the same device reconnect to the Wi-Fi network of your repeater to check the network connection and its internet speeds.
- This is a complete setup of your Asus ac55 WiFi repeater using the web-browser alone.
Configure Asus rp-ac55 as an Access-Point Mode:
- Connect the Asus RP-AC55 repeater to a power outlet and wait for a couple of minutes for the ‘Power’ LED to turn to a solid green color.
- Now insert a Lan cable into an Ethernet port on the back of the repeater and insert the other end of the cable into your router.
- From your computer/phone connect to the Asus_Extender showing up in your WiFi list.
- On the same device, open the browser and search for ‘http //repeater.asus.com’ or ‘192.168.1.1’ in the address bar.
- On the left column, click on the ‘administration’ option.
- Once it opens a new page, click on the third option that says ‘Access Point (AP) mode’. Click on ‘Save’.
- Now enter a ‘Username’ (SSID) and ‘Password’ for the network of your rp-ac55 repeater and click on ‘Apply’.
- Your device will now reboot, which takes around 60 seconds and after that, you can connect your devices to the Wi-Fi network of the repeater successfully.
How to update the Firmware of rp-ac55 extender?
- Connect the Asus RP-AC55 to a power source and wait for a couple of minutes for it to turn ‘ON’ properly.
- Once the ‘Power’ LED turns to a solid green color, connect your device to the repeater’s Wi-Fi network.
- On the same device open the web-browser and search for ‘http://repeater.asus.com’ or ‘192.168.1.1’.
- Click on ‘Advanced Settings’ on the first page and enter the administrative ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ respectively.
- Follow the above steps from the ‘Setup’ column if you haven’t configured and setup the repeater yet.
- On the main page of the configuration interface, click on the firmware version number present on the top-right of the page.
- Visit ‘https://www.asus.com/my/Networking/RP-AC55/HelpDesk_Download/’ to download the firmware file for this repeater.
- Click on ‘Choose a file’ and select the firmware file you had a download and saved on your computer earlier.
- Hit ‘Upload’ and wait for 2 minutes for the repeater to get its firmware installed/upgraded.
- Once it is done, you can login into the page again to check for the firmware version
How to Factory Reset ac55 extender?
- Make sure that the Asus RP-AC55 is connect to a power source and the ‘Power’ LED is having a solid ‘green’ color.
- Use a paperclip that is straight enough and push and hold the reset switch for about 3 seconds.
- Now release the switch. You will see that after 5 seconds, the ‘Network’ light will start blinking slowly once again indicating that it is ready to be setup as a new device.
